President Obama announced a plan Thursday night to mainstream millions of illegal immigrants with an executive order allowing them to stay instead of facing deportation, bringing howls from Republicans who complained about so-called 'anchor babies' helping their illegal parents remain in the U.S.

The president calmly explained in a 16-minute speech – subtitled in Spanish – the parameters of what angry Republicans are calling a lawless 'amnesty.

THE FULL TEXT OF OBAMA’S STATEMENT ON FORT HOOD

I just got off the phone with Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Sandy Winnefeld to get the latest report on the situation at Fort Hood.

Obviously, we’re following it closely. The situation is fluid right now, but my national security team is in close contact with not just the Defense Department, but the FBI. They are working with folks on the ground to determine exactly what happened, to make sure that everybody is secure. And I want to just assure all of us that we are going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.

You know, any shooting is trouble. Obviously this reopens the pain of what happened at Fort Hood five years ago. We know these families. We know their incredible service to our country and the sacrifices that they make. Obviously our thoughts and prayers are with the entire community. And we are going to do everything we can to make sure that the community of Fort Hood has what it needs to deal with the current situation but also any potential aftermath.

We’re heartbroken that something like this might have happened again. And I don’t want to comment on the facts until I know exactly what has happened. But for now, I would just hope that everybody across the country is keeping the families and the community of Fort Hood in our thoughts and in our prayers. The folks there have sacrificed so much on behalf of our freedom. Many of the people there have been through multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. They serve with valor, they serve with distinction, and when they’re at their home base, they need to feel safe.

We don’t yet know what happened tonight, but obviously that sense of safety has been broken once again. And we’re going to have to find out exactly what happened. The Pentagon will undoubtedly have further briefings for you as we get more details about what happened.

TORONTO MARCH 31st, 2014 – In a random sampling of public opinion taken by The Forum Poll™ among 854 Quebec voters one week before the provincial election, 4‐in‐10 will vote Liberal (41%), compared to fewer than 3‐in‐10 who will vote Parti Quebecois (29%). One fifth will vote CAQ (19%), less than a tenth will vote QS (7%) and few will vote Green (2%), ON (1%) or for any other party (1%). These findings represent a continuation of the decline we have seen for the PQ (March 5 ‐ 38%, March 19 ‐ 32%, March 31 ‐ 29%), while the Liberals have plateaued (March 5 ‐ 40%, March 19 ‐ 45%, March 31 ‐ 41%). The CAQ has seen its share increase since we polled last (March 5 ‐ 12%, March 19 ‐ 13%, March 31 ‐ 19%).

When people ask First Lady Michelle Obama to describe herself, she doesn't hesitate to say that first and foremost, she is Malia and Sasha's mom.

But before she was a mother -- or a wife, lawyer or public servant -- she was Fraser and Marian Robinson's daughter.

The Robinsons lived in a brick bungalow on the South Side of Chicago. Fraser was a pump operator for the Chicago Water Department, and despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at a young age, he hardly ever missed a day of work. Marian stayed home to raise Michelle and her older brother Craig, skillfully managing a busy household filled with love, laughter, and important life lessons.
